The beauty is in the details.
So often we’re told not to “get caught up in the details”, “lose the forest for the trees”, “sweat the small stuff”. I generally agree that keeping a larger perspective in mind is important and helps us put our challenges / hardships into context; realizing they won’t seem so difficult in the grand scheme of things is comforting.
However, I’ve long found an even greater level of comfort in the details. In the tiny minutiae that often goes overlooked. By focusing on the tiniest of details we can tap into the sheer wonder of what it is to be alive on this planet, at this time, experiencing this form.
Spending time in nature provides a great reminder to not get so accustomed to “zooming out” that we forget how wonderfully healing it can be to “zoom in”, to look closely, to become fully immersed in the little things. In my experience, the details have as much power to provide healing and perspective as does “the bigger picture”.
